Reading for Sure is able to supply comprehensive training in the Solomon Method. This method covers the teaching of pre-literacy level students through to those ready for some extension. The Solomon Method was developed originally to remediate a deficit in English reading ability but over a period of 25 years was developed to cover the many areas of literacy. The Solomon Method of teaching and the Reading for Sure program can be used to give children the skills they need to be fluent in English literacy from the beginning or can be used to bridge gaps in students’ literacy abilities.

The goal of the training program is to give trainees the skills they will need to open their own tutoring service. Once accreditation is awarded the trainee is able to purchase a license and set up their own service business. The new provider of Reading For Sure will then have the opportunity to help students who, without the intervention of the Reading For Sure program, would not achieve their potential at school.

To access the full Reading for Sure training site you need to be a registered trainee. This web site is designed to give the trainee access to the training materials from where ever they live and to be accessed when and as often as is needed.  Please be reminded not to share these materials with anyone not training or is not already a provider with Reading for Sure, please keep your password safe.

The training requires the trainee to read and understand the theory behind the Solomon method and to then practically apply the theory and the Reading for Sure teaching material to students. The trainee will need to show their understanding of the Method and how to apply the method to a variety of students. They will also need to demonstrate that they will be able to run their own tutoring service and all that entails.

To facilitate the above Reading for Sure will supply reading material and the activities that will need to be conducted with students. Reading for Sure will provide videos to further explain the method and to give trainees the opportunity to observe students being taught. Where possible trainees should observe first hand lessons in a clinic.

A supervisor will be provided to offer support and assistance but it is up to the trainee to seek that assistance by asking questions and giving the supervisor the opportunity to look over work completed. If assessment requirements are completed but not handed in then the assessment cannot be used to award accreditation in the Solomon Method until it is handed in.  One to one and group tutorials will be arranged as needed. For distance trainees these can be via Skype etc.

Practical application student availability.

The trainee may need to ‘find’ some students if a clinic is not available to supply access for practical application or if not enough students at the level required are available. These can be family and friends children that can help out the trainee by being ‘students’ and at the same time these students will get extra help with their literacy. While training a trainee cannot charge for these lessons.

The original training program was design in a linear fashion with the program broken up into 10 workshops. As the practice of Reading For Sure is much more integrated across the various areas such as reading, spelling, comprehension etc. we have now tried to present the material in a more integrated format. The original ten units are incorporated into this new format.

The training has now been broken into four main sections or phases

. Preliteracy phase

. Early literacy Phase

. Reading for Sure Phase

.Literacy Extension Phase.

In addition to this there are the Hand writing, Management, Assessment and Diacritical marking units. The knowledge and practicum of these cut across all of the other units and so needed to be presented separately.

To gain accreditation as a provider of The Solomon Method – Reading For Sure the trainee will have to complete at least 50 hours of supervised practical application of the method with students and complete all written components of the training. When this is submitted to the supervisor and approved then accreditation will take place.

Once accreditation is awarded the new provider can work in a clinic or purchase a lisence to operate their own clinic.
